anxiety & depression

to change the way you feel, change the way you think

Anxiety & depression can cast a dark cloud over us, making our world in it’s entirety feel negative — like “everything sucks” or “what’s the point” — but your mind is lying to you.

Mental health struggles stem from unhealthy thinking patterns that are created by our life experiences & trauma. These can cause us to have negative, discouraging thoughts about ourselves & others.

While they look different for everyone, some common symptoms of both anxiety & depression look like:

  • overthinking & racing thoughts

  • negative/intrusive thoughts

  • feeling on edge & irritability

  • trouble sleeping & appetite changes

  • fatigue

  • feelings of hopelessness

  • loss of interest

  • difficulties concentrating

  • physical symptoms including headaches, stomach issues, racing heart, & tension

you live most of your life inside your head, make it a nice place to be

How do you fix negative thoughts? A common treatment for anxiety & depression is cognitive behavioral therapy. The basis of this treatment is that our thoughts, feelings, & behaviors are all connected & interact with one another. When something happens to us, a thought pops into our heads — many times these thoughts are irrational, extreme, or unhelpful to us. These can lead us to feel anxious or depressed. Then we react by behaving in a certain way such as avoiding, yelling, isolating, etc.

Common negative thoughts & beliefs include:

  • I’m not worthy / I’m not enough

  • I don’t deserve to be happy

  • people are untrustworthy

  • I’m not capable / I’m a failure

  • there is something wrong with me / I’m unlovable

Therapy can help you identify your core beliefs in order to reframe & replace them with more positive or realistic ones. With a safe place to process these, we can practice challenging your negative thoughts & help you learn how to rewire your brain to automatically experience a new thought. Confronting your thoughts will allow you to gain relief from the symptoms caused by anxiety & depression.
